Looking After Yourself and the Planet

As the world becomes more globalized, hectic, and destructive, it’s time to put sustainability at the forefront of everything we do. BUT SUSTAINABLE SEX? Yes, it’s a thing, and SHAG is here to guide you through the exotic world of sex that is both sustainable for you, and the planet.

From biodegradable vibrators to vegan condoms, there are a myriad of ways you can bring the climate crisis into the bedroom. But, sustainability is not just about plastic-free lube. Sustainability is vital in your relationship with yourself: knowing your body, knowing what you want, and communicating with a sexual partner in a way that does not comprise your self-worth.

It’s 2020, and it’s time to get with the programme.

Hopefully, as the sustainability world grows, it will become cheaper and easier to access these products.

Having a healthy sex life and being sustainable are almost completely at odds with each other, from condoms, sex-toys, and lube, the products we use often do not have conscious and ethical values behind them.

However, it’s definitely easier than you think to tackle the climate crisis in the bedroom. Despite this, Shag wants to emphasize that there are many areas you can implement sustainability into, and you should always prioritize your sexual health and wellbeing first.

CONDOMS

Whatever condom you do or don’t buy, condom is always better than no condom! And remember not to flush them down the toilet, it can seriously damage sewage systems and aquatic life.

LUBE

Despite what many environmental advocates may promote, Shag does not recommend using alternative lubes such as coconut oil to fuel your sex life. These pose the danger of wearing down and breaking condoms, or irritating the skin. Steer clear!
